ZEEMEE – A supplement to College Applications

The process of applying for college in America is long, complex and very competitive.

Universities look for students who excel academically, and are passionate about extracurricular activities, like sports, music and community service. In the search for the right match, admission staff read mountains of letters of recommendation, essays and personal statements. But a new tool has emerged: an app called ZeeMee.

Zeemee brings your college application to life. It’s a free, online virtual resume that allows videos and images to showcase your true self in a creative way. You can post photos, videos, write about your goals and aspirations, and showcase your skills in music, sports etc. But this social media platform has a focused audience: college admissions offices.

ZeeMee website is used by more than 200 colleges in the U.S., and are expanding into Europe. For American colleges, the appeal for universities is finding the right fit among thousands of hopeful applicants.

For students, the app displays their strengths and their unique personalities. ZeeMee is also useful for international students who want to study in America but who can’t come to the U.S. for an admissions’ interview. If you believe you have the creativity, talent, and (perhaps most importantly) self-editing skills to create a well-produced ZeeMee page – go for it! Additionally, students who feel their grades and/or standardized test scores do not accurately reflect their true ability may find ZeeMee is a terrific outlet for standing out in a competitive applicant pool.

But students are advised that ZeeMee should not be used as your own personal Instagram or Facebook page; it is a site for your professional self. Be thoughtful and deliberate about the photos, videos, and documents you choose to upload. The whole point of ZeeMee is to “bring your application to life,” not to overshare and potentially harm your chances of acceptance.
