AN INDIAN STUDENT GUIDE TO APPLYING FOR CANADA STUDY PERMIT

Indians can apply for Canada study permit in 2 ways:

1. Online – through Canadian High Commission. VFS does not support online visa applications.

Go to the website – www.cic.gc.ca

Create login and password

Fill in the application online

Upload scanned copy of all the necessary documents and submit the application online.

Once you receive an email from high commission, you need to submit your original passport to VFS centres in person.

2. Paper Submission- Through VFS centres

Go to the website – www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/india

There are 4 forms to be filled. They are as follows:-

1. Student Visa Application form#1294 – this is the main application form, to be filled online only. At the end of the form there is a “validate” button, click only once to generate barcode. Take 2 prints of the barcode. Do not submit the form online.

2. Family info form#IMM5645 – this is for students above 18 years of age, fill it online and take a printout or manually with black ink only. This form requests information about your spouse or common-law partner, your parents, your children, step children and adopted children, and your brothers and sisters (including step-siblings and half-siblings). This information will become part of your immigration record and may be used to verify your personal information in future applications. Do not submit online

3. VFS consent form – to be filled manually

4. Checklist – check with the college under which checklist you are falling

5. Student questionnaire form – to be filled manually

6. Form#5476 – Only if applicant is not coming in person

7. 2 photographs – 35x45mm with white or light background

8. Original passport and 1 photocopy of passport

9. Visa fees to be paid in cash directly to VFS

Visa fee – Rs 7400/- as of 16th june, 2016

GC and remittance fee – Rs 104/-

VFS service charge – Rs 726/-
Average processing time – 5 weeks

Scheduling an appointment with VFS is not required for submitting papers. You can just walk-in within the office hours.

Interview is not mandatory. Only if, high commission deems fit, will intimate you for interview.

Medical test is optional. You can opt for pre-medical test or opt for post medical test once high commission intimates you.
