Want to study in Europe? This is how much it’ll cost you!

Europe is one of the most favoured destinations for international students because of the excellent educational universities it boasts of, spread out among lush campuses and places of great historical value. Here we compile a list, with average costs, of how much it’ll take for you to reach your favourite country!

Germany

Germany is free for all students at undergraduate and PhD level at public universities excluding those in Baden-Württemberg where international students pay tuition fees of €3,000 (~US$3,500) per year.

Master’s degrees at German universities are usually free if they are classed as “consecutive” – i.e. following directly on from a related bachelor’s degree gained in Germany. For non-consecutive masters , you need to shell out €20,000 per year for a public university while it can cost up to €30,000 for a private place for international students.

Germany is one of the world’s most popular study destinations, offering world-class universities and a high quality of life. As well as the fees listed above, all students pay around €250 per semester to cover administrative costs.

 

United Kingdom

While the UK capital is home to an impressive selection of universities, bear in mind that living expenses in London are much higher than those in the rest of the UK.

International undergraduate tuition fees vary considerably, starting at around £10,000, while Masters’ fees begin upwards of £14,000 for international students

Austria

Austria is also free for domestic/EU students, while international students need to shell out approximately €750 .

There’s also a student union membership fee of €19.20 per semester, which all students are required to pay.

Finland

Finland is more affordable compared to other countries like Denmark, Sweden. Finland’s fee for International students studying in English pay an average of €4,000-18,000 a year.

Denmark

Like many other Nordic countries, Denmark also provides free education to home/EU students at all levels; international student could pay upto €6,000-16,000 per year (~US$7,020-18,730)

France

The new tuition fees for international students, starting September 2019, are:

  • 2,770 euros per year for Bachelor’s (Licence) programmes,
  • 3,770 euros per year for Master’s programmes,
  • 380 euros per year for Doctorate (PhD) programmes – the same amount as for Europeans.

Note that the values above refer only to public universities; the cost of tuition at private universities can be higher. They generally range from 3,000 to 20,000 euros per year.

Ireland

Tuition fees for non-EU students

  • Undergraduate courses 9,000 – 45,000 EUR/year for undergraduate degree courses
  • Postgraduate Master and PhD courses: 9,150 – 37,000 EUR/year

Italy

Public universities in Italy set their tuition fees according to the level of degree, and the study programme.

Average tuition fees: €950-4000/academic year at undergraduate level at public universities;while €1,500 at postgraduate level. Tuition fees in prestigious public universities in Italy may exceed 1,000 EUR/academic year

Norway

Average tuition fees: Free for all at public universities (with a few exceptions in the case of specialized programs). Norway uses Norwegian Krone (NOK)

Tuition at public universities in Norway is free for all students, with fees charged only for a few specialized programs, typically at postgraduate level. You may be required to pay a small semester fee, typically around NOK 300-600.

Spain

Average annual tuition fees: €750-€2,100 at the undergraduate level in public universities; €1,320-€4,320 at postgraduate level. Non-EU students will pay slightly more.

You can study at a good university, travel like a pro and speak Spanish too! Barcelona is expensive but definitely worth the ride.

Switzerland

Average tuition fees: CHF 805-1,238 (~US$810-1,245) per year at all study levels. International students may have to pay an additional charge.

The Netherlands

If you’d like to be a bike ride away from a picturesque landscape and your college, Netherlands is your place. Non-EU students pay an average of €6,000-15,000 at bachelor’s level and €8,000-20,000 at postgraduate level.
